Rates, Warranty & Payments
Rates
Base Labour Rate
Slocan Valley: $80 hourly per worker. Rates for additional workers may vary. Minimum charge per visit is $140.
Beyond Slocan Valley: $80 hourly per worker. (Nelson, beyond Crescent Valley and New Denver) Rates for additional workers may vary. Minimum charge per visit is $160.
** Charging begins upon arrival and ends upon departure. You do not pay for lunch breaks nor morning and afternoon breaks.
Travel Time
No travel time unless unusual conditions previously discussed. No charge for travel or truck to and from client work site under normal conditions.
After-Hours
Beyond Crescent Valley & New Denver: $160 hourly. Minimum charge is $250.
After-Hours is considered times outside 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Time is charged from leaving the shop to returning to shop as well as time selecting tools and supplies and putting said items away upon the return.
Chimney Sweep & Woodstove De-Ashing/ Repair
Servicing done at your hourly base labour rate.
W.E.T.T., certifiers of all-things woodstoves, allows for non-W.E.T.T contractors (Handyworks) to provide such services.
If an insurer does require that the regular servicing be done by a W.E.T.T. certified contractor, consult such local contractors.
For over 20 yrs and counting, Handyworks has safely performed chimney sweeping and stove maintenance.
Roof Work
All roof work requiring rope use, $125 hourly otherwise performed at your base labour rate.
Increased charge may be required in the event of detrimental conditions affecting safe conditions of equipment and of worker(s).
Grease Trap
$300 approximate and up for servicing. Call for a consultation on new installation, replacement, servicing contract establishment and problem solving. 13 yrs. of leading the field of grease trap installs and servicing provides accurate knowledge.
Typical Additional Charges
Selecting & loading of tools & supplies and putting tools away upon return to shop, for each field of work hired for. This is done with the intention of minimizing charges, once on jobsite, of driving time to suppliers or Handyworks’ Slocan workshop.
Prep work: modelling, planning ahead, internet researching, over the phone or in-person research due to unavailability of blueprints, manuals, instructions or materials supplied by the manufacturer or client.
Power Augering & Drain Servicing
Slocan Valley: $110 hourly. Base Labour Rate does not apply.
Nelson, beyond Crescent Valley and New Denver: $120 hourly.
Capacity is for 2″ drain pipes. 3″ & 4″ pipes clearing is possible.
After-hours drain servicing, all regions: $200 hourly.
After-Hours is considered times outside 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with time being charged from leaving the shop to returning to shop.
Confined Spaces, Crawl Spaces & Attics
Additional $20-$40 to hourly base labour rate. Replacement of P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment), masks, gloves, etc. may be additional.
Decontaminating/ cleaning gear may be charged.
Truck & Trailer Fee
No charge for travel or truck to and from client work site under normal conditions.
Under special conditions:
Truck use: $60 minimum per 1 one-way valley run i.e. delivery, pick up, dump run. Truck use fee is in addition to base labour rate while truck is in use. This fee when applicable applies to travel from client work site and return back to client work site.
Trailer use: $50 /day
A) Will be made in writing or verbally prior to travel
B) Travel time is charged out when, within a job’s clock-in and out time, travel is required from a client’s work site to i.e. a store/ supplier/ HH’s workshop and back. The base labour rate applies hourly.
C) Outside of clock-in and clock-out times, travel time is charged for travel to a store/supplier or HH workshop when exclusive benefit is to a client’s project. The base labour hourly rate is charged.
Warranty
On labour: 30 days unless otherwise stated in writing or verbally to witnessing staff, family or household member, prior to installation.
On parts:
- All parts’ warranties as per manufacturer or store where purchased.
- HH honours manufacturer warranty only when part is selected & supplied by HH.
- When parts provided by client: warranty claims dealt with by client.
Payments
E-transfers and cash are the accepted forms of payments. Sorry, cheques, debit and credit cards are not accepted.

Insured
Insurers in BC do not provide coverage for plumbing, electrical, roofing for non-ticketed contractors such as Handyworks. All other works at Handyworks Heroux ought to be covered.
